Prior to joining the Tribune, he worked for three-and-a-half years as a correspondent for Business Week magazine in Chicago, and for eight-and-a-half years as a business reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times. He began his career in 1984 at the Anderson (S.C.) Independent-Mail.
