Hans-Bernd Menzel is the former chief executive officer of the European Energy Exchange AG (EEX) and managing director of the EEX in Leipzig. He held these positions from November of 2002 until the end of March 2011.[1][2]

Background

Prior to this appointment as the managing director of the Leipzig-based European Energy Exchange AG (EEX) in the year 2002, Menzel was a managing partner in the management consultancy Palm Tresckow & Partner Consulting GmbH in Frankfurt/Main of which he'd been a member since its establishment in 1987.

Within the EEX Group, Menzel was also CEO of the EEX-owned clearing house European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC). In addition, he held the position as managing director of the exchange as well as EEX Power Derivatives GmbH, a Leipzig-based subsidiary which was established on Jan. 1, 2008.[3] Furthermore, he assumed the function as chairman of the board of directors of EPEX Spot SE. [4]

Education

Menzel was born in 1955. After his studies at the University of Cologne and receiving his doctorate in the year 1983, Menzel worked as a lecturer in business administration at the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences. At the same time, he taught as a guest lecturer at Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Montpellier and was employed at the Institute for EDP Applications in Worms.
