Bittman is the author of four books: Options for the Stock Investor, 2nd Edition; Trading Index Options; Trading and Hedging with Agricultural Futures and Options; and Trading Options as a Professional. He is a regular contributor of options education articles to financial media, including a weekly article for www.investors.com, and also teaches a Masters level options program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
He began his trading career in 1980 as an equity options market maker at the CBOE. From 1983 to 1993, he was a Commodity Options Member of the Chicago Board of Trade, where he traded options on financial futures and agricultural futures.
Bittman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College in 1972 and an MBA from Harvard University in 1974.
