Larry Arnowitz is a veteran derivatives market executive, electronic brokerage pioneer and insurance professional who is a licensed insurance agent with HealthMarkets, Inc.
Previously, he was a vice president at Advantage Futures for business development.
Also, he had been the president of Atrium Trading Inc.
Arnowitz began his markets career as a floor messenger or runner for the brokerage firm Refco in 1981 on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He worked in the Treasury Bill area of the trading floor.
He later moved to Paine Webber as a phone clerk for a couple of years then became a local trader in the bond pit at the Chicago Board of Trade. He did not thrive in the bond pit, partly because he did not know anyone after starting his career over at the CME.
After a year trading on the floor, he moved to London and took a job with GNI. GNI hired him in 1987 as an upstairs phone clerk to start an American trading desk. There he helped build a business in bonds and Eurodollars and other U.S, products for this European firm.
During his time in London, he traveled extensively while educating customers and prospects, including Central Banks, about the advantages of using exchange traded derivatives to manage interest rate risk. He learned a lot about the European markets during his time in London, he told JLN's Sarah Rudolph in a 2010 interview.
After three years in London, he moved back to Chicago to set up an office for GNI specializing in electronic trading. GNI was an early user of Patsystems and Trading Technologies trading platforms and GNI focused on semi-professional clients with an aggressive tiered commission schedule.
He then joined Introducing Broker TJM for about five years. After leaving TJM he set up his own trading office, Arnowitz Financial Services, and registered it as an Introducing Broker. He tried focusing on lesser traded products like hurricane futures or contracts on the Chicago Climate Exchange.
Arnowitz joined The Price Futures Group, Inc., an Introducing Broker, in 2011 where he was a colleague of John Lothian, founder of MarketsWiki. He was hired to help build a discount brokerage operation. Atrium Securities would not succeed and Arnowitz would later join Advantage Futures in a business development role.
Arnowitz received a BBA in Finance from The George Washington University School of Business.
