Edward Knight is a U.S.-based lawyer, exchange executive and former government official. As of October 1, 2019 he will be the vice chairman of Nasdaq. Knight will continue to manage global government relations and will serve as a senior advisor on public policy and litigation.[1][2]

Previously, he served as executive vice president and general counsel of Nasdaq. In his role as general counsel, Knight was responsible for providing legal counsel to senior management and for overseeing the quality of legal services across the global organization.


Edward Knight has been executive vice president and general counsel at Nasdaq since October 2000 and served as its chief regulatory officer from January 2006 until June 23, 2017. Before joining the NASD in 1999, Knight served as general counsel of the U.S. Department of the Treasury from September 1994 to June 1999, where he was the department's longest-serving general counsel since the position was created in 1934.

Prior to his tenure at the Treasury, Knight was a partner with the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld in its Washington, D.C., office.[3]


He holds a bachelor of arts degree with honors in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law.[4]
