Allan Thomson is the director of trading at the JSE Limited, formerly known as the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.[1] He most recently assisted in the development of Yield-X, the JSE's Interest Rate Exchange.

In September 2011, Thomson was a speaker at the Emerging Markets Forum at the Swiss Futures and Options Association's 32nd International Bürgenstock Meeting in Interlaken.[2]

Background[edit]

Thomson began his career in the financial markets in 1992 when he joined Rand Merchant Bank's trainee induction program. He moved to the equity derivatives trading desk as a proprietary trader, leaving the bank in 1999. Thomson then became a chief dealer and established the first exotic options book in South Africa.

He later moved to Matthison and Hollidge where he established one of the first automated market making system for single stock futures in South Africa.[3] Thomson joined the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa following its acquisition of the South African Futures Exchange (SAFEX). He managed the integration of equities and the equity derivatives market there.
