Argent is a London, U.K. based startup that develops mobile applications for cryptocurrency. Its Argent Wallet is an Ethereum smart contract wallet with built-in recovery tools and accessibility features. It is available for both iOS and Android platforms.[1]
Argent Wallet uses a unique identifier tied to the mobile device as well as back-up recovery methods established with either Argent itself or the wallet user's friend or relative. According to CoinDesk, an online news service, this design is unique compared to similar mobile wallets with private keys. It is touted as a very convenient on-ramp into decentralized finance or "DeFi."[2]
Argent was financed with $16.2 million in venture capital funding.[3] The latest funding came from an infusion of $12 million on March 9, 2020, which was led by the Silicon Valley venture investor Paradigm, spearheaded by Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam, Compound founder Robert Leshner, and Index Ventures. The London-based wallet startup has now raised $16 million since it was founded in December 2017.[4]
