Bill Murphy runs the website LeMetropoleCafe.com, a site for gold investors, and is chairman of The Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee (GATA). He has been a staunch advocate of gold for about 30 years and is known to some in the industry as "King of the Gold Bugs".
Along with Chris Powell, a Connecticut newspaper editor, he founded GATA in 1999 to expose manipulation of the gold and silver markets. [1]
Background[edit]
Murphy began his career in commodity trading as a Merrill Lynch trainee before working for Shearson Hayden Stone and Drexel Burnham. He formed his own introducing broker firm in the mid-1980s. In 1998 he left Wall Street and launched his web site.
