Bolsa de Valores de Panama is Panama's stock exchange. It was a private sector initiative created during the political and economic crisis in Panama in 1989. The exchange held its first trading session on June 26th, 1990. [1]
The BVP created the Central Latinoamericana de Valores, S.A. (aka Latin Clear) in 1997 to provide clearing and liquidation for stock exchange operations through its electronic system. On August 14, 2009, BVP and securities depository Central Latinoamericana de Valores SA, announced that they would seek shareholder approval for a corporate restructuring to form a holding company for both entities.[2]
