The COMEX division of the CME Group is the primary U.S. market for trading metals such as gold, silver, copper, aluminum and platinum. COMEX was formerly known as the Commodity Exchange Inc. It merged with the New York Mercantile Exchange in 1994 and became the exchange's metals trading division. NYMEX and its COMEX division were acquired by the CME Group in 2008.[1]

Volume at Comex in 2016 was 110,102,193 contracts, up 34.6% from the previous year.[2]
