Charles Bean is the deputy governor of the Bank of England (BOE). He was appointed to the position in October of 2008.[1]
Bean is charged with overseeing the Bank's monetary policy and open market operations. He sits on the monetary and financial policy committees at the Bank. Prior to his 2008 appointment to the position, Bean served as executive director and chief economist for BoE.

Bean joined the London School of Economics as a lecturer in 1982, becoming professor of Economics in 1990 and head of department in 1999.
He was visiting Professor at Stanford University in 1990. There, he wrote extensively on European unemployment, on European Monetary Union, and on macroeconomics generally. He has also served in a variety of public policy roles, including: as consultant to HM Treasury; as special adviser to both the Treasury Committee of the House of Commons, and to the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament; and as special adviser to the House of Lords inquiry into the European Central Bank.[2]

Bean holds a B.A. and M.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Emmanuel College, Cambridge as well as a PhD from MIT.
