David Harris was the president and CEO of CBOE Stock Exchange (CBSX) from January 25, 2007 until 2014 when the exchange was shut down.

Background[edit]

Before CBSX, Harris served as senior vice president of Business Planning and Strategy at the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) where he was responsible for developing, planning, and implementing critical aspects of the exchange's strategic direction. This included forming new business lines, developing strategic relationships with other markets, and formulating market structure. In addition, Harris provided guidance regarding business development and other important initiatives to the AMEX and its customers, and execution of aspects of the exchange's new trading technology initiatives.

Prior to joining the AMEX, he served as executive vice president and general counsel of Nasdaq-Liffe Markets (NQLX),[1] formerly a joint venture between The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. and the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange. Harris was a founder of NQLX and played a vital role in planning, directing, and executing the exchange's successful launch and subsequent operation. He has also served as counsel to chairman and CEO of the NASD and NASDAQ.

Earlier in his career, Harris was a senior associate at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart and as senior counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Education[edit]

Harris graduated cum laude from Villanova University with a bachelor of science in business administration, and has a J.D. from Catholic University School of Law. [2][3]
