David Setters Occupation Senior Associate Employer Contango Markets Location London Website www.contango.co.uk David Setters is a philanthropist and senior associate at the specialist derivatives consultancy Contango Markets. He was one of the founding trustees in 2008 of Futures For Kids, a UK-based group that raises money for different children's charities. He also launched The City Against MND Network in April 2016, a London-based group created to encourage financial market participants to raise awareness and research funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as ALS in North America. Setters was diagnosed with MND himself in 2011. In May 2017, a group of futures professionals led by Nick Spencer Skeen and Keith Todd created the David Setters Trophy for a charity cricket tournament that raises money for MND research. The first event raised £30,000 in July 2017. In 2015, Setters was inducted into the Futures Industry Association's Futures Hall of Fame, which was established in 2005 to commemorate outstanding contributions to the global futures and options community. Background Setters was a pioneer in the media in covering derivatives markets. In 1982, shortly after exchange-traded derivatives were introduced in London, he launched the monthly publication Futures & Options World magazine and served as managing director from 1989 to 2005. He also served as FOW's managing director from 1987 to 2005, leading the creation of titles such as Futures & Options Week. Both publications were later purchased by Euromoney Institutional Investor. He also worked with U.S.-based colleagues on the hedge fund industry's first newsletter, MAR Hedge. Setters organized the inaugural London futures industry conference with the Futures Industry Association (FIA) in 1987 and established FOW's Annual Derivatives Exhibition in London in 1991. That event later morphed into the FIA International Derivatives Expo, or IDX, one of the top conferences of the year in the futures and options industry. He was a guest editor for the John Lothian Newsletter, where he shared his diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (or ALS/Lou Gehrig's).
