Douglas (Doug) Cifu is president and chief operating officer of Virtu Financial, a New York-based market making and proprietary trading firm. He co-founded the firm in 2008, along with former NYMEX chairman Vincent Viola.[1]
He is also vice chairman and co-owner with Viola in the Florida Panthers hockey team. The two purchased the National Hockey League team in September 2013 for $250 million.[2]
Cifu joined the board of directors of Eris Exchange in June of 2018, when Virtu joined Eris as an equity partner.[3]
Background[edit]
Before joining Virtu, Cifu worked for 17 years at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison where he served most recently as a partner in the firm's corporate department. He also worked for several years in its private equity department, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital financing.
Education[edit]
In 1987, Cifu earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Columbia College. He went directly into Columbia University's School of Law, earning his JD in 1990.
