Corcoran is the chairman and chief executive officer of futures brokerage and clearing firm R.J. O'Brien (RJO). He is also treasurer on the board of the Futures Industry Association (FIA) and served as chairman of the FIA from July 18, 2014 to March 2015. He serves on the board of the National Futures Association (NFA) representing futures commission merchants. He is also a member of the CFTC Global Markets Advisory Committee. On December 8, 2011, Corcoran spoke on behalf of the Commodity Markets Council (CMC) and RJO at an MF Global hearing before the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture. He made suggestions on how to better safeguard the futures industry, saying that trust had been "severely impaired" by the MF Global situation. Background Corcoran was formerly the controller for the Chicago Sun-Times. He joined RJO in 1987 as the chief financial officer. In 1992, Corcoran was promoted to chief operating officer at the company. A former member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, he served on several committees at the exchange. He is also a former governor of the Clearing Corporation. Education Corcoran has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola University (1973-75) and is a certified public accountant (CPA). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. The Path to Electronic Trading Corcoran's one day of working on the trading floor of the Chicago Board of Trade during May of 1988 prompted him to start to find ways to add technology to R.J. O'Brien's operations to increase the efficiency of getting orders into and out of the trading pit.
