Jim Kirk is senior vice president and editor-in-chief at Sun-Times Media Group, Inc.

Previously, he was managing editor of Chicago News Cooperative and chief of editorial operations at Crain's Chicago Business. Before that, he oversaw Bloomberg's coverage of the White House and Congress as a U.S. government team leader.[1] Additionally, Kirk was formerly business editor of the Chicago Tribune.

Kirk joined the Chicago Tribune in June 1997 as a marketing and advertising writer. He served as a columnist[2] and business editor before his appointment to the business section’s top job in February 2005. Kirk's departure from the Tribune followed several other high-level editors and reporters as the paper reorganized and cut staff. Tribune Co. filed for bankruptcy protection Dec. 8 as boss Sam Zell tried to renegotiate its debt.[3]

Kirk previously was a columnist at the Chicago Sun-Times and Midwest managing editor for Adweek magazine.

Kirk is a graduate of Illinois State University.[4]
