John C. Shay
John C. Shay is a financial services and exchange executive who currently serves as managing partner at Capital Market Services, Inc., a wholly-owned clearing and execution services business he founded which is designed to improve market access for the non-bank community in the over-the-counter and exchange-traded markets.
He also serves as senior advisor at Broadway Technology and at Virtu Financial Inc., where he advises the CEO on all FICC-related matters.
Earlier, he was senior vice president and global head of fixed income and commodities at Nasdaq. He took over the role on October 11, 2016, reporting to Hans-Ole Jochumsen, Nasdaq's president.
He left the organization in July of 2017 after less than 10 months on the job.
From 2012 to 2016 he served as senior vice president for global markets at Virtu Financial, where he was responsible for managing outside venue, vendor and trading relationships, focused on fixed income, commodities, and currencies.
Shay has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He founded the International Derivatives Clearing Group (IDCG) with Vincent Viola in March 2007 and served as chief marketing officer until it was acquired by LCH.Clearnet in August 2012. During this time he also served as managing partner at Capital Market Services.
Before founding IDCG, Shay spent nearly 25 years, from 1982 until 2007, managing various businesses for ICAP.
Shay earned an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, Columbia University and a B.B.A. from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, graduating magna cum laude.
