Jonathan Matte is a kontorpotet with North Adventure AS in Alta, Norway.

Previously, he was the chief operating officer of John J. Lothian & Company, Inc. (JJLCO). He was also associate editor of John Lothian Newsletter and editor of JLN Forex.

Background[edit]

Matte started his professional career in software, working as a software developer for Tandem Computers back in the 1980s and 1990s. He relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 1995, and after two more years in software changed careers and joined the futures industry.

He founded Defender Capital Management, Inc in 1997.[1] The company operated first as an Introducing Broker and then as a Commodity Trading Advisor, trading 30-year Treasury Bond, Eurodollar, Canadian Dollar and Sugar #11 futures. Defender's corporate logo "Troutman" was intended both an inside joke for the company, and a reminder that you don't have to be stuffy to take investing seriously. The company closed down due to internal conflicts in 2004, and its intellectual property was sold to JJLCO.

After Defender, Matte took a couple of years off, working on independent projects and taking on occasional non-futures jobs to support that temporary independence.[2]

Present Day[edit]

In August of 2007, he accepted an offer from John Lothian to return to the futures industry and lend his speedy typing skills and software experience to creating MarketsWiki. He worked closely with John and the rest of the MarketsWiki team to create the infrastructure and initial contribution standards. He continues to provide occasional article content, debugging help to other contributors, and ninja-style editing forays into recently changed pages.

In his capacity as COO, Matte serves as associate editor of the John Lothian Newsletter and editor of the JLN Forex newsletter; invents tools and solutions to streamline work processes; works occasionally on implementing new projects and features for the company; furnishes JJLCO with assistance and trading data to support the company's managed futures activity; and writes documents, gives advice, and claps impatiently when it's past JLN's publishing time.[3]

Personal Data[edit]

Jon Matte in The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers

Matte resides in Alta, Norway[4], sharing life above the Arctic Circle with his wife, her family, and a lot of people who use snowmobiles. When he's not at work, he spends his time playing computer games, sketching designs for new games, and writing the first half of an endless stream of stories and songs. He is an alumni member of The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers,[5][6][7][8] a drum group that performs its hard-driving, car-alarm-setting-off sound around the Pacific Northwest.
