Jose Manuel Barroso
Jose Manuel Barroso is a Portugese politician and former president of the European Commission. He joined Goldman Sachs as a non-executive chairman and adviser on international business in July of 2016.[1] He will help Goldman Sachs deal with the fallout from Brexit.[2] Barroso served as president of the European Commission from 2004 to 2014, and before that was prime minister of Portugal from 2002 to 2004. Background[edit]Barroso was first elected to the Portuguese parliament in 1985, and held positions including state secretary for home affairs, state secretary for foreign affairs and cooperation, and minister for foreign affairs in successive governments. Education[edit]Barroso graduated from the University of Lisbon with a law degree. He then completed a diploma in European studies at University of Geneva's European University Institute and a master’s degree in political science from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Geneva.[3] References[edit]
