Louis Moore Bacon is chairman and principal investment manager of Moore Capital Management, which he founded in 1989.

In 2007, Bacon was inducted into the Futures Industry Association's Futures Hall of Fame, which was established in 2005 to commemorate outstanding contributions to the global futures and options community. [1]

Background[edit]

Louis Moore Bacon is considered one of the top traders in the world. Moore, a North Carolina native, began his career as vice president of futures for Shearson Lehman Brothers, using futures to express his investment views. Moore Capital, which he founded in 1989, has grown into one of the world’s largest hedge funds active in the global financial, resource and private equity markets.

One differentiating factor separating Bacon from other portfolio managers has been his pioneering interest in risk management. Moore Capital has dedicated substantial resources to back testing data and stress testing long before it was the norm on Wall Street. This emphasis on understanding and managing the risks in his portfolio of investments has contributed to fund returns under all market conditions.[2]

Education[edit]

Bacon earned a Bachelor of Arts in American literature from Middlebury College and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
