Nikkei, Inc. is a Tokyo-based media company that focuses on print and online newspapers, publishing of books, magazines and music, and broadcast communications. [1]
Since 1949, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun ("Nikkei") newspaper has published the Nikkei 225 Stock Average, a price-weighted average of the top 225 Japanese companies.[2]
In September 2015 the Nikkei media group won U.S. antitrust approval for the $1.3 billion purchase of the Financial Times from Britain's Pearson PLC. The purchase marks the culmination of decades of attempts by Nikkei to break into mainstream English-language media.[3]
