Thomas Leaver is the former CEO of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange. He was named to the position on September 1, 2008, replacing Gary King, after having served as the COO of the DME.[1] In March 2012, the DME announced that Leaver would be departing the exchange, and that the search for a new CEO was underway.[2]
Background[edit]
Before joining the DME as chief operating officer in May 2006,[3] Leaver was a senior fund manager of RAB Capital’s commodities energy fund in London.
He started his career with Edgington Oil Company in Long Beach, Calif. He later worked for Apex Oil Company (St.Louis), and then, in London, for Finnish national oil company Neste Oy. Leaver was a director and vice president with Neste for 10 years. He then established the OTC derivative business in Europe and Asia for Nations Banc-CRT (now Bank of America). Leaver was president of TransCanada International Petroleum Ltd, establishing the global trading arm of TransCanada Pipelines Ltd.
Leaver has also served as an external consultant for McKinsey & Company, advising national and international oil companies in the Middle East, Europe and North America.[4]

Leaver is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a BSc. (Hons) in business administration.[5]
