William (Bill) H. Gates is chairman of Microsoft Corporation. On June 15, 2006, Microsoft announced that effective July 2008 Gates would transition out of a day-to-day role in the company to spend more time on his global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In 2009, Gates regained his title as the world's richest man despite losing $18 billion in the past 12 months.[1]

In late June of 2009, Warren Buffett reportedly said that Gates’ charity, to which Buffett pledged most of his fortune, is best able to put his money to good use.[2]

After July 2008, Gates continued to serve as Microsoft’s chairman and an advisor on development projects. Effective June 2006, Ray Ozzie assumed Gates’ previous title as chief software architect and began to work side by side with Gates on technical architecture and product oversight responsibilities at Microsoft.[3]
