Alex J. Pollock is a resident fellow of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI) in Washington, D.C. [1] He focuses on financial policy issues, including government-sponsored enterprises, retirement finance, housing finance, corporate governance, accounting standards, and issues raised by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Pollock has served as a member of the board of the CME Group since 2004.[2]

In November 2019, CME Group announced that Pollock would step down from the company's board effective November 15 to become principal deputy director of the Office of Financial Research at the U.S. Treasury Department.[3]

He also serves on the boards of Allied Capital Corporation,[4] Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation and the Great Books Foundation.[5]

In June of 2009, he was rumored to be on a short list of possible nominees for the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, a bipartisan panel being formed to investigate the causes of the 2007 financial crisis. [6]


Before joining AEI in 2004, Pollock spent some 35 years in the banking business, most recently as chief executive officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago.[7] He also served as president and CEO of Community Federal Savings in St. Louis.
