Tony Saliba is a financial industry executive who is the CEO of Mercury Digital Assets and vice chairman of the board of managers at Matrix Holding Group. He is the founder of Saliba Venture Management, LLC, which he started in July of 2015, and is the author of "Managing Expectations."[1]

Matrix Holding Group was formed with Saliba as chief executive in September 2017, when it was announced that ITG would partner with Option Technology Solutions to form Matrix Holding Group. Matrix provides derivatives trading technology to traders, broker-dealers and hedge funds.[2]

Background[edit]

Saliba's interest in trading began in high school, where he caddied for grain traders. After leaving college, he began work as a stockbroker in a small firm in Indianapolis in 1977. He learned about options trading, which had only been around for three and a half years at that point, through reading a number of market timing and day trader magazines. After spending a couple of years at the firm, he asked one of the older men smoking a cigar in the office, "Who makes all the money in this industry?" and was told that "You've got to be down on the floor."

In 1979 he moved to Chicago and became a clerk at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). After spending a few months clerking, he met a man he had caddied for in his high school years, and convinced him to partner up, with Saliba providing the trading knowledge and his partner providing $50,000. Within a few years, Saliba was able to buy out his partner, and began training young clerks how to trade. By 1987, he had 27 traders working for him, and was named a director on the CBOE board, a post he held until 1990.

At the CBOE he traded equity options as an independent market maker. Later he traded most CBOE products, currencies and the S&P 500 contracts on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, along with the agricultural and interest rate products traded on the Chicago Board of Trade. He traded the SPX for four years on the CBOE floor. [3][4][5]

In 1989, Saliba was the only options trader to be profiled by Jack Schwager in Market Wizards, a compilation of interviews with unusually profitable traders.[6]

Saliba founded First Traders Analytical Solutions, LLC, a provider of technological solutions for the trading industry, including front and back-end systems for options routing and execution in 1992.[7]

He was the CEO of LiquidPoint, LLC and executive managing director of BNY ConvergEX Group, LLC.[8] He managed the options trading platforms for both the buy-side and sell-side investment communities.[9]

He is also a founding member of Saliba Partners, L.L.C. an options trading firm on the floor of the CBOE and the founder of International Trading Institute, Ltd., an international derivatives training institution.[10]

He is a founding partner of Efficient Capital Management, a multi-manager CTA portfolio investment firm.[11]

He is also chairman of the advisory committee at the Reagan Legacy Foundation, a member of the board of trustees of The Heritage Foundation, and a member of the board of directors of The American Spectator Magazine.[12] He was a specialist on the Chicago Stock Exchange floor and in 2016 was added to CHX's board of directors.[13]

Education[edit]

Saliba earned a bachelor of science degree in Accounting from Indiana University in 1977.[14]
