The Karachi Stock Exchange is a stock exchange that is located in Pakistan and owned by 200 members and brokers. There are 651 companies listed on the exchange. Transactions are done on an electronic trading system.[1]

On January 11, 2016, a merger took place in which operations of the Islamabad and Lahore stock exchanges were integrated into the Karachi Stock Exchange, which was renamed Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited.

History[edit]

As a result of demutualization of stock exchanges, the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) was structured as a public company limited by shares under the name of Karachi Stock Exchange Limited, as of Aug. 27, 2012 after issuance of the certificate of re-registration by the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan.

In August of 2012, it became known that the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) were in advanced stages of discussion regarding cross listing of indices on futures contracts. The KSE was also in discussion with the New York Stock Exchange regarding possibilities of trading of KSE-30 and KMI-30 indices at NYSE.[2]
