Nicolas Aguzin is the CEO of JPMorgan's International Private Bank and a member of the Operating Committee for the firm’s Asset & Wealth Management business.[1] In February 2021 he was appointed CEO of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX), effective May 24, 2021. He takes over from Calvin Tai, who had been interim CEO after Charles Li, also a former JPMorgan banker, stepped down.[2] He was appointed to a three-year term. Aguzin is an Argentine native who also holds a Croatian passport and has permanent residence in Hong Kong. He speaks Spanish, Portuguese and English but not Mandarin. The appointment of a non-Chinese person as CEO of HKEX was reportedly unexpected by market observers, who noted he will have to balance the demands of authorities in Beijing with those of Hong Kong's trading community. [3] [4] [5] [6] Background[edit]Aguzin served as JPMorgan’s chairman and CEO of Asia Pacific from 2012 to 2020. Before that he led the bank in Latin America and held various senior investment banking roles. He joined JPMorgan as a financial analyst in 1990. Education[edit]Nicolas Aguzin attended The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a bachelor's degree in economics and finance in 1990. References[edit]
